Your Step-by-Step Guide to Setting Realistic and Attainable Goals

Hello and welcome back to "Elevate Your Journey"! Today, we're focusing on a crucial aspect of any fitness journey: setting and achieving your goals. Whether you're just starting or looking to take your practice to the next level, having clear, realistic goals can make all the difference. Let's dive into how you can set and achieve your pole and aerial fitness goals effectively.

Get to Know SMART Goals

SMART stands for Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. It’s a great way to make sure your goals are clear and doable.

  • Specific: Be clear about what you want to achieve. What’s the exact move or skill you’re aiming for?

  • Measurable: Track your progress. How will you know when you’ve hit your goal?

  • Achievable: Make sure your goal is challenging but possible. Is it realistic for your current skill level?

  • Relevant: Pick a goal that matters to you. Does it fit with your overall fitness journey?

  • Time-bound: Set a deadline. When do you want to achieve this goal?

Examples of SMART Goals

Short-Term Goals:

Goal 1 - Mastering A Basic Move:

  • Specific: Learn to perfect a basic pole spin/aerial sit.

  • Measurable: Be able to complete 5 consecutive spins/sits without losing form.

  • Achievable: Practise spins/sits for 15 minutes at each session.

  • Relevant: Essential for building foundation skills in pole/aerial fitness.

  • Time-bound: Achieve this within the next 4 weeks.

Goal 2 - Increasing Strength:

  • Specific: Increase upper body strength.

  • Measurable: Be able to do 10 pull-ups in a row.

  • Achievable: Add upper body strength training to your routine 3 times a week.

  • Relevant: Necessary for improving performance in both pole and aerial fitness.

  • Time-bound: Achieve this within the next 6 weeks.

Long-Term Goals:

Goal 1 - Performing a Routine:

  • Specific: Prepare a complete pole/aerial routine.

  • Measurable: Be able to perform a 3-minute routine smoothly.

  • Achievable: Choreograph and practice different sections weekly.

  • Relevant: Key for building confidence and performance.

  • Time-bound: Perform at a local showcase in 6 months.

Goal 2 - Achieving Advanced Moves:

  • Specific: Master an Iron X/Planche

  • Measurable: Hold the Iron X/Planche for at least 5 seconds.

  • Achievable: Incorporate strength and skill drills into each practice session.

  • Relevant: A milestone move showing advanced skill level.

  • Time-bound: Achieve this by the end of the year.
